Oopa! This week was both my daughters graduation from High School and my son’s completion of middle school. Due to some scheduling miscues by the high school we ended up with our graduation in downtown Detroit at the Opera House. It’s a beautiful venue without much of a view from the balcony. We decided to take advantage of its proximity and dine in Greektown at the Parthenon Restaurant. We haven’t been to Greektown for a long time . The personality, food, and value is tremendous. We had all the traditional favorites, but I was really impressed with the braised lamb in a lemon oregano sauce. It was really delicious. So this week I decided to put together a turkey meatloaf and serve it with a lemon oregano sauce. Yummy! Turkey meat loaf really superceded my expectations. Always remember when cooking with turkey that you need to add some moistening, and I highly recommend mixing in some mayonnaisse for that job. Graduation time is a lot of fun. You get to go to parties and mingle with all the parents that you have befriended through your kids activities, and congratulate all the graduates that are ready to take their next step in life. But coming up in 2 weeks is our graduation party. It is going to be an open house in our back yard. We are actually hosting the party for both our daughter Jesse and her 3 best friends. Why not, the more the merrier. Well it’s menu planninng time. One mom is bringing some korean sweet and sour pork and fried rice, which is from her heritage. The rest is up in the air. So the big question will be, what will we make that can feed 150 people, stay good for up to 4 hours, and not chain us to the kitchen. Strategic menu planning is everything. It will probably be hot, so we must have some cool refreshing salads with fresh fruit. We’ll include a cold soup. For the rest we are considering Mexican fair which is easy to construct and doesn’t break the bank. The sandwiches are up in the air. Stay tuned next week and we’ll give you the final results of our planning. Take Care, Prep
